April 2015 Tasting - Wines of Spain

Our April gathering took place at the Savile Club in Central London, a venue we have enjoyed for several years. The Fare proved to be excellent and we had that wonder cliche where Food complimented the Wine and the Wine complimented the Food.

We had taken some painstaking efforts to find a suitable Wine Supplier having been let down by two company's and in the end the Wine was presented by

As it turned out, this proved fortuitous. Their brief had been no Rioja and having a Company that actually produced wine meant some very interesting finds. For those who did not have the chance to attend here are the notes for your information

About Chateau Angludet
One of Bordeaux’s oldest properties, there is a reference to Chevalier Bernard d’Angludet in 1319, and the Manor House existed on the current site in the 12th Century. Peter Sichel, the Father of the current generation of 5 brothers and 1 daughter, bought Angludet in 1961, an Estate of 80ha in total, but with only 7ha of vines at the time, making sadly only 11 barrels of the 1961 vintage, 275 cases 12/1. The vineyard now covers 34ha. Ben Sichel took over the winemaking from his Father in 1989. The other 4 brothers work in the family negociant business Maison Sichel SA on the Quai de Bacalan, an office that was founded in 1883. Ch Angludet was not classified in 1855, but if there was ever to be a reclassification, it would probably be a fifth or even a fourth Growth.
The Sichel family are the owners of Chateau Angludet Margaux, Chateau Argadens BordeauxSup,Chateau Trillol Corbieres, and are the major shareholders of Chateau Palmer.
